Academic Support Coordinator - Homework Help Program

Position Summary

The Academic Support Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring high‑quality academic support for students in the Homework Help program. This position oversees daily tutoring operations, collaborates with school staff to understand student needs, and maintains a structured, encouraging learning environment. Coordinators supervise tutors and volunteers, support students individually and in small groups, and help track academic progress throughout the year. The program operates only on ISD 196 school days, with no programming on district holidays or the day before a holiday break.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Experience working with diverse populations of children in educational settings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Spanish language skills a plus

Primary Responsibilities

Tutor Oversight & Instruction

  • Assign, instruct, and supervise tutors

  • Monitor volunteers working directly with students

  • Provide individual or small‑group tutoring to reinforce learning concepts

  • Keep students on task and engaged in academic work

School Collaboration

  • Maintain regular communication with teachers and school counselors

  • Support each student’s individual academic needs through shared information and coordinated strategies

Student Support & Program Leadership

  • Supervise and support students in both elementary and middle school programs as needed

  • Encourage positive behavior, participation, and teamwork

  • Lead or assist with team‑building activities for students

  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment

Program Operations

  • Adhere to and enforce the program Code of Conduct and behavioral policies

  • Instruct and monitor students in the proper use and care of facilities

  • Observe, track, and document students’ academic progress weekly

  • Record and maintain relevant data to assess student growth

  • Guide end‑of‑day cleanup and closing procedures

  • Provide program support to the Director and other staff members

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings

Transportation Support (as needed)

  • Safely operate a 15‑passenger van when assigned

  • Assist with student transitions between program components

Commitment Options:

  • Elementary Coordinator: 2:30 PM - 6:30 PM

  • Middle School Coordinator: 1:30 PM - 6:30 PM

  • The academic portion of the program concludes at 5:30pm. On days when home transportation support is needed, Coordinators extend their shift until 6:30pm to assist with van dismissal. This responsibility varies depending on daily staffing availability. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years old

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

  • Must pass a background check

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs, move classroom materials, and supervise active youth environments.

  • Clean driving record

  • Comfortable driving a 15-passenger van

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow a consistent weekly schedule

Compensation

This is a paid hourly position. Hourly Rate:$23–$25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
