What is Homework Help?

Four days a week, our students in grades 3 through 12 receive individual and small-group tutoring, literacy and math intervention, mentoring, service opportunities, and physical activity. Through multiple community partnerships, Reaching Up is also able to provide nutritional assistance to families in the form of weekly groceries, after-school snacks, and a full dinner on school nights.

Reaching Up believes that every student deserves a strong network of support, so we actively collaborate with families, teachers, specialists, administrators, volunteers, community partners and many others to ensure that our students know that an entire community walks alongside them as they learn and grow. Together, we do not just meet needs — we cultivate resilience.

That work continues regardless of whether or not school is in session. Over the past two years, Reaching Up has expanded to offer a Summer Enrichment Program that exercises brains, bodies, and social bonds over the long summer months as well as fun field trips to places all over the Twin Cities, such as the Como Zoo, Bell Museum, local plays and the Dakota County Parks.

Serving the Needs of Our Community

Reaching Up’s Homework Help program began in 2014 as a non-profit organization for families with financial limitations to provide programs that combine academics and enrichment. Today, we have expanded our work to serve the needs of our community by:

  • Building relationships with the schools

  • Supporting and encouraging young people in the community to become better students, use good manners, and learn how to be responsible

  • Working with students to give back to the community by volunteering at Loaves & Fishes onsite

  • Giving high school volunteers an opportunity to explore career paths working with youth

At Homework Help, the staff and volunteers share simple kindness with students in a safe environment.
